Operational - Creating the Audit Plan

Ever wonder how your department lands on the University’s annual Audit Plan?  No, it’s not some kind of twisted lottery system.  In today’s environment of evolving risks facing colleges and universities, it’s imperative we use a multi-phased collaborative approach, seeking input from key stakeholders in order to properly allocate our limited resources.

Each spring, we begin with a series of interviews with University leadership to identify high risk areas (e.g., changing regulations, systems development).  After aggregating this information, we identify common themes throughout the University. Additionally, we consider economic trends, current events, what we’re hearing from our peers, etc. We also strive to provide periodic assurance coverage of key processes in our colleges, schools, and system institutions. This annual exercise results in a risk-based Audit Plan.

In addition to audits, we reserve a set number of hours annually for advisory services.  If your department is implementing new procedures or is looking for cost savings and process efficiencies, we are available to provide consulting services or to participate on committees in an advisory capacity. If there's anything we can do for your department, please contact us at  AAServcs@mailbox.sc.edu or 803.777.2752.

IT Security – Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month!  The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) and IT Audit encourage all Gamecocks to own their role in protecting the University’s network and information from the bad guys. We expect everyone to practice good password management, to be careful what you click, and never to leave devices unattended. For more information on your role in protecting the University’s information assets, read Your Role In Protecting The University.
